A more easy way to the top of Diamond Head

Hikers familiar with Diamond Head trail know all too well those 99 heart-pumping steps. It is the ultimate test of your will through the bunkers and reach the top of the crater. Fortunately for your quads, it is now easier to get to the top, and technically, it is about 15 shorter steps.

Diamond Head Hike New Section

Hikers can go left after the tunnel of an easier way for the top of the page (above). Or challenge their legs with these 99 steps (bottom).

Less than a year, the State opened a new section of the runway which is wider and safer for walkers. After the tunnel and at the base of the 99 markets, loop around the Summit to the ocean front of link with the original track on the lookout. Finally, I had the chance to test the new road and let me tell you: a day without wind in the crater - it would be a relief to any hiker! For all the walking nicely paved with handrails on both sides. There is also a new platform of belvedere from which to get the best view of Koko Head.

The idea is to have visitors climb the old staircase and market back on the new path. I saw some hikers going in both directions, so it does not appear to be strictly respect (yet?). But with about 4 000 people to conquer the crater every day, there will be less traffic jams as before. I remember there be as many people on 99 markets at the time, it was difficult for anyone to go beyond the other. Needless to say, which became an extension of security problem, abruptly because the steps are.

And no matter how you want to reach the top, the panoramic view of the South side of O'ahu which makes it all worth.
