Happy Birthday, Amelia Earhart!

Because birthday horoscopes usually include a list of famous people born on that date, we wanted to highlight an upcoming one for July 24th. This happens to be J-Lo's birthday as well as the French author of The Three Musketeers, Alexandre Dumas'. But one name that stands out is that of American aviator Amelia Earhart. She would have been turning 115 years old!

Amelia Earhart's Birthday

What's a birthday without cake? Amelia Earhart would have been turning 115 years old this year.

Amelia took flight in the world of aviation as an instant stand-out; a go-getter whose determination and fearlessness paved the way for pilots and airpersons alike. Although she has passed away, Amelia still remains an integral part of the flying community today. Her name comes up in classrooms worldwide and, most recently, in the news. An expedition searching for clues of her disappearance 75 years ago is currently underway in Kiribati. We'll see what they uncover.

As for now, it's safe to say that Amelia's presence is still greatly honored and remembered. So why not celebrate her birthday with a party? One with party balloons, punch and cake! The Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor will be doing just that this Tuesday in celebration of the daring aviatrix. Everyone's invited to the party, which will also showcase a special photo exhibition in her name.

Look who showed up for the party! An Amelia look-alike celebrates the aviatrix's birthday with cake and punch.

Hawai‘i in particular is especially excited for Amelia's upcoming birthday. She had strong ties to the islands while she was alive – making history with three flights to Hawai‘i in 1943, 1935 and 1937. During one of her visits, she planted a banyan along the Big Island's famous Banyan Tree Drive, showing how her presence is still deeply "rooted" here as well. And don't forget that unforgettable pic of her with legendary waterman Duke Kahanamoku. It's still on display at the museum today.

As we say in Hawai‘i, Hau‘oli La Hanau, Amelia! (Happy Birthday, Amelia!)
