Road to tripping the West coast of the big island

Most people will tell you that to see the large island, the right way, you need to choose a side (Kona, Kohala, Waimea, Hilo) and a stay to discover every nook and cranny. This is what I on my last trip, and I started on Kona - side West which is desert in its drought. North on Highway 19, our first stop was the ukohola Heiau National Historic Site, where a walk to the ocean will take you through the ruins of an ancient village. The bonus is small, protected beach where we met a local who said us diving was excellent. We have been attempted, but moved to the port of Kawailhae instead, an another known diving spot and spent a few hours in the water. It is beautiful, had a rustic shower to clean, good parking and clear water, but we regret will do not look at the heiau (place of worship).

Kona

Diving in Kona and take advantage of its beautiful landscapes.

Towards the north end until the road 270, the landscape is beautiful and constantly changing. Now you are beautiful hills, dotted with the remnants of ancient vulcan activity more interesting cinder cone. This area is a favorite because of its exceptional landscapes. Our destination was the adorable old sugar cane town of Hawi, in the region of North Kohala and lunch! This town is truly cherished and perfect for eating, walking, or commercial art. We were directed to the famous Restaurant of bamboo and Gallery, well known in travel guides, but it was closed this week. Instead we were right next to the lighthouse Deli and had the best sandwich rueben in my life!

Position on the "end of the road," literally, at 270, we followed the rugged coast incredibly until she took a turn tight and suddenly stopped. But if the road had not ceased to you, I think that the view would in any event. He made my jaw drop. The Pololu Valley was just across us, reaching far back into the Earth, with ridges high and green on each side, from the edge of the sea and a beach of black sand at the bottom of the cliffs. As the moment where he would have in Hawaii ' I, we had it y as a huge Rainbow appeared over the Valley. There is a trail that leads to the beach that seemed safe, but we have a ride. This is a must-do for visitors to the island.

Northern Big Island

Reaching the end of the road in the North of the Big Island.

Travel back on Route 250 (a lovely promenade) was so nice. Lower Waimea is made of green hills, beautiful farms, interesting landscapes and trees to roll. And don't forget the small coffee plantations, private that dot the region. Please do not leave the island without some of its famous coffee! I found a small grocer who made a variety of local coffee and bought five different brands for a reasonable price.

Big Island

The many faces of the large island.

This one day put the island at the top of my list of favorite islands. It is very tempting to stay in some of the large and beautiful resorts offered, but my advice: in the car and move forward!
