Learn to play Hawaiian music

The sounds of Hawaii come from across the Islands. You will hear in the calm of the ocean, the Majesty of the mountains and the gentle breeze of the tropical tradewinds. But nothing does share the Aloha Spirit better than Mele Hawaii or Hawaii music.

By visiting the Islands, there is always a chance, you will find a free music or Hula workshop. Most of the time, this will be in hotels or cultural festivals. But if you are really interested in learning the art forms, then I would suggest taking a private lesson. You will have not only the individual attention, but also an opportunity to learn the cultural and historical significance related to each instrument or singing. You can even pick up a Hawaiian word or two!

A well known school that you see is Ke Kula Mele Hawaii ' I, which can be translated by to Hawaiian music school. Not only is correctly named, but it is the result of the best Hawaii steel, Alan Akaka guitarists. By Ke Kula Mele Hawaii ' I, visitors can learn how to play the steel guitar, ' ukulele, Hawaiian style or guitar-based. There are morning and afternoon workshops that include lesson materials, refreshments, and transportation to and from your hotel. The school is at his home in Kailua, but in some cases, Kumu Akaka went to the hotel.

I like what he said on the school's Web site, "Ke Kula Mele Hawaii is a place where creative and musical ideas can be developed, nurtured and shared... solidly built on foundations of type ' ihi (Respect), Kuleana (responsibility), Malama (care) and Aloha (Love).". When I was an eighth grader at the Kamehameha school, I remember having Kumu Akaka as my music teacher. He shares with us his passion for Hawaiian Mele and teaches us how these Hawaiian values are important not only in the music world, but in our daily lives. Although I never pursued music as a career, I am always so grateful having Kumu Akaka as a mentor. I am a Hawaiian better due to kumu like him, who try to teach beyond the parameters of a single object.

Ke Kula Mele Hawaii will be the next 2012 Aloha Festivals Keiki Ho 'olaule' a Pearlridge Center. The event is Saturday, September 8, 2012, 01: 15 to 14 would be a good chance to see what they are!
